The Language Institute has partnered with the following schools that will waive the English proficiency requirement for Language Institute students who meet the requirements below.*
Level 500
Language Institute students who pass all four 500-level academic track courses (Intro to Advanced Grammar 1, Intro to Academic Reading & Discussion 1, Intro to Advanced Speaking/Listening, and Intro to Academic Writing 1) with a B-average may have the TOEFL requirement waived for their applications to these schools:
Level 600
Language Institute students who pass all four 600-level academic track courses (Advanced Grammar 1, Academic Reading & Discussion 1, Advanced Speaking/Listening, and Academic Writing 1) with a B-average may have the TOEFL requirement waived for their applications to these schools:
- Herzing University at the undergraduate level
Level 700
USG Colleges and Universities
The University System of Georgia (USG) accepts completion of a USG campus-based ESL program as proof of English proficiency. For those eligible for a Level 700 certificate, this can count as proof of English proficiency in your college application. Visit the USG website to learn more about the policy and to view a map of USG schools.
Non-USG Colleges and Universities
The Language Institute has an agreement with the following non-USG schools in Georgia for a waiver the English proficiency requirement for Language Institute students who pass all four 700-level academic track courses (Academic Writing 2, Academic Reading & Discussion 2, Academic Speaking, and Academic Listening & Note-taking Skills) with a B-average:
- Agnes Scott College at the undergraduate level
- Berry College at the undergraduate level
- Georgia Piedmont Technical College (formerly DeKalb Tech) at the undergraduate level
- Herzing University at the graduate level
- Oglethorpe University at the undergraduate level
- Shorter University at the undergraduate and graduate levels

* Student and Exchange Visitor Program regulation prohibits the issuance of a Form I-20 based on conditional admission. A program's Designated School Official (DSO) can only issue a Form I-20 when students have met all standards for admission for the program of study listed on the Form I-20.
